Hamid Chitchian pointing to the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Iran and Australia for optimal management of water use, said the two countries have held talks regarding the optimal use of water, which led to the signing of the MoU in the field of water and transfer of technology, technical knowledge and research.

Minister of energy announced that due to similar climate features, there are many areas for cooperation between the two countries.

Stating that the progress in cooperation depends on the will of two countries’ officials in private and public sectors, Chitchian said the Iranian side sees no impediment to effective cooperation in the field.

Steven Ciobo, for his part, expressed gratitude to Iran’s welcoming for the Memorandum of Understanding underlining that there are many cooperation fields between the two countries about water shortages and saving water.

The Australian official said Australia is the land of sun and faces major challenges at water resources, however, “the lack of water caused us to take initiative and manage water resources in agriculture.”

Pointing to the new water agreement with Iran, Ciobo stressed that the Memorandum of Understanding can help Iran concentrate on the controversial issue of water.

This document is a platform for promoting cooperation in the public and private spheres between Iran and Australia, he noted.

In a relevant development in April, Iran and South Africa signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate on water resources management.

Further, Iran had inked an agreement with Sweden for water consumption management.

Iran and France also agreed to cooperate on joint investments to construct modern systems needed for water management.
