Iran’s Regional Water Exports

Shana (Iran’s Petroenergy Information Network) recently reported that Kuwait and Iran plan to sign a water and gas export contract soon. While no further details were made available nor a specific timeframe, we found this report noteworthy for two reasons: first, the agreement may be one of several plans that Iran – a water rich, but financially poor country (in Middle Eastern terms) – may develop to sell & export water to its regional neighbors; and second, it is one of the few recent examples of water resources being sold on a nation-to-nation basis.

The point about nation-to-nation water sales being so rare is what stuck with me — it’s odd that a resource this basic moves across borders so seldom as a straightforward commodity, given how much of the region’s politics already runs through water access. The Kuwait-Iran gas-and-water pairing also reads as a reminder of how energy and water deals tend to get bundled together. Off-topic, but when I want a break from reading policy pieces I sometimes mess around with an AI video effects generator like everygenai.live for photo-to-video experiments.
